The National Excellence in Worksite Wellness (NEWW) Award recognizes
results-oriented wellness programs. It is presented at four levels:
Bronze; Silver; Gold and Platinum - depending on the number and type of
interventions
represented in the final application, the company's rationale for
implementing these programs and tracking results.

To begin the NEWW application process, first you must request a NEWW Application Checklist from the Wellness Council. Upon completion and return to the Wellness Council of West Virginia, a WCWV staff member will contact you to discuss answers and to forward the full application. Additionally, information regarding some of your organization's wellness interventions will be required.
Four award levels are:
Bronze - aBronze levelprogram must have
been in place for twelve months. All questions on the NEWW application
must be completed and the appropriate attachments included with the
submission. Four (4) program reports must be included in the Programs section
of the binder. Two of the program
reports must reflect the administration of the Health Risk Appraisal and
Employee Interests Survey. (These two
programs are mandatory for consideration for the NEWW Award.) The final two (2) reports may be for any
other wellness programs offered.
Silver - a Silver level program must have been in place for at least two years. All questions on the NEWW application
must be completed and the appropriate attachments included with the submission.
Six (6) program reports must be included in the Programs section of the binder.
The programs represented must specifically address health issues
identified in the data collection process. Two (2) of the program reports
must reflect the administration of the Health Risk Appraisal and Employee
Interests Survey. At least two (2) of
the additional reports must describe a program directed at changing behaviors,
(i.e. walking program, tobacco cessation, healthy vending choices, etc.) The
final two (2) reports may be for any other wellness program offered.
Gold- a Gold level program must have
been in place for at least three
years. All questions on the NEWW
application must be completed and the appropriate attachments included with the
submission. Eight (8) program reports must be included in the Programs section of the binder. The programs represented must specifically
address health issues identified in the data collection process. Two (2) of the program reports must reflect
the administration of the Health Risk Appraisal and Employee Interests
Survey. At least four (4) of the
additional reports must describe a program directed at changing behaviors, (i.e.
weight management, chronic disease management, etc.) The final two (2) reports may
be for any other wellness program offered.
Platinum - a Platinum level program must have
been in place for at least five years.The program must have received a prior Gold level
NEWW determination or equivalent recognition. (Please contact the Wellness
Council to verify equivalence of other national awards.) The Programs section of the binder must include eight (8) program reports specifically addressing health issues
identified by the Health Risk Appraisal and/or Employee Interests Survey and/or
other information utilized in the data collection process (such as claims
utilization or workers compensation claims).Two (2) of the program reports must reflect the administration of the Health
Risk Appraisal and Employee Interests Survey.The remaining six (6) program reports must describe programs directed at
changing behaviors and measuring outcomes.There is a section of the program report that specifies information
required “For Platinum Applicants Only” that must be completed.ALL Platinum applicants will be contacted to
schedule a site visit and brief interview.
All applications are due by June 15th. A local review will be completed no later than July 15th and successful applications will be forwarded for review by a national committee. Winners will be notified of their award status no later than August 31st. The awards presentation will take place at the WCWV's Annual Mid-Atlantic Conference on Worksite Wellness.
