Sharon,
involved with the Wellness Council of West Virginia since July 2003,
received a BA in English from Marshall University where she also
completed the Masters of Science in Exercise Physiology. Sharon has
worked in the field of Wellness since 1992, designing health and
wellness plans, employee benefit plans, and corporate wellness tools.
She speaks regularly on the importance of healthy lifestyle choices at
state and regional venues.
She
has been certified as a Group Fitness Instructor through the American
Council on Exercise (ACE) since 2002 and has held certifications from
the Aerobics & Fitness Associations of America (AFFA) and YMCA of
the USA since 1996 for personal training, exercise instructor, and
personal fitness instructor, and kickboxing instructor. Sharon has
been active in several initiatives to improve the quality of life in
West Virginia and was recently named one of Generation Next, (WV's 40 Up and Coming Executives Under 40), by The State Journal.
Barbara
has more than 20 years of experience in the administrative field. For
most of her career she worked as an administrative assistant for a
major public utility. Also, for 5 years she was co-owner of a small
family business. Barbara is very efficient, well organized, and
people-oriented.
Patty Marino Deutsch, the Tobacco Policy Director for the
Wellness Council of West Virginia, has a Masters Degree in Counseling from
Marshall University. For the past 5 years, Patty has worked with
employers statewide to develop
and implement successful tobacco policies and wellness programs to improve
employee health. Patty is a Licensed Professional Counselor in both WV and NC
and earned a specialized certification in addictions. She is an advocate
of eliminating negative behaviors by encouraging new positive behaviors to
increase positive lifestyles for improved emotional and physical wellness.
Patty speaks to conference attendees statewide on programs related to
addictions, depression and behavior modification. In her spare time, she enjoys
flower gardening, reading, cooking and spending time with her husband, 17 year
old daughter and 2 dogs.
Kelli received both her BA and AAS
from Marshall University in 2006 and has completed over 100 hours in
the School of Nursing. In addition, she has received certification as a Tobacco Training Specialist (TTS) through the OhioHealth
Nicotine Dependence Program and is a Heart Truth for Women Champion. She
has over 15 years of diverse experience working for profit and
non-profit organizations, including the fundraising arm of the state’s
largest healthcare provider and one of the largest law firms in the
state. She is active on various wellness committees and helped implement wellness plans across the state. A lifelong resident of Putnam County, Kelli and her two sons live in Fraziers Bottom.
Cheryl Jackson, M.S., A.T.C. - Regional Tobacco Policy Coalition Coordinator Cheryl earned a B.S. in Athletic Training and Health Education from Ohio University, and a M.S. in Exercise Science from the University of Oregon. She then spent 8 years working in athletic training education at the university level. During this time an interest developed in healthy lifestyles, training the body for performance, and behavior modification. Over the next seven years Cheryl was the Director of a performance training center that focused on athletic development and weight loss. While in this position she became involved in a number of community and worksite based health and wellness initiatives in the Kanawha Valley. Cheryl is looking forward to making an impact regionally in the areas of clean indoor air and reduction in tobacco usage. She continues to develop training programs for individual clients. Cheryl is originally from Ohio, but has enjoyed living in West Virginia for the past nine years. During her spare time Cheryl enjoys camping, rollerblading, mountain biking, snowboarding, and photography.
Originally from Michigan, Linda has a BA from the University of Michigan and an MPA from Wayne State University. Since moving to West Virginia 20 years ago, she has worked in the field of children and family services. She brings to the Council a broad array of on-going experience and leadership in program evaluation and outcomes, quality improvement, compliance, and policy development. In 2003, Linda received an MS in Community Health Education from West Virginia University and is a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES). In addition to her classwork at WVU, Linda assisted in writing two training manuals: the Media-based, Community Campaign for Walking based on Wheeling Walks and Community Health Participatory Planning. Linda resides in Wheeling with her husband and their three daughters.
Erin is a graduate of the University of Rio Grande
with a Bachelors Degree in Marketing and has recently completed her Masters
Degree in Business Administration and Health Care Management. Erin
has worked in the field of employee wellness for over 4 years. She joined
the WCWV in March 2009.
